The Greater Loveland Historical Society began in 1975 as a committee of five leading ladies in the community, including former Loveland Mayor Viola Phillips. The purpose was directed to local history and its collection, examination, preservation and dissemination. With the assistance of a generous monetary gift from C. Roger Nisbet and the volunteer work of Stanton Brock and other society members, the Greater Loveland Historical Society Museum was opened in 1984 in the historic former home of Dr. John S. Law at the corner of Riverside and Park. The Society, which began with 62 charter members, has grown to more than 300 individual, families and corporate members.
Over the years, the Greater Loveland Historical Society Museum has provided many special events and activities for members and the community. A partial list includes a local history contest in the schools, school and group tours, workshops, speakers, historic harvest bazaars and outdoor events, historic house tours, interesting and unusual exhibits, and extensive Loveland history in its library.
